No matter where you are in life, situations have the ability to humble you, and you will need to positively remind yourself of who and what you are.
So, as you know, I am currently studying for the CPA exam. It’s been a couple of months since I have been studying for the FAR section of the exam. Throughout that period, there was a lot of sacrifices, mainly of sleep and spending time with my family and friends. I did however have to take a quick trip to the Bahamas for my God daughter’s graduation and anniversary, apart from that, I have tried to remain solely focused on studying.
Sometimes, I question whether it is all worth it; the sleepless nights, the many frustrations of problem solving, the silent cries to God for help, help to keep you going, help to understand the material, help so you can retain what you have been reading. Fortunately for me, I love to always finish what I’ve started. I never feel good about giving up on anything especially giving up on me. So, in my moments of weakness, I came up with a few “NOTE TO SELF” .to remind and encourage myself on my journey
You Are Doing a Great Job
It’s human nature to have doubts. If you have any doubts about how well you are doing, I am encouraging you and encourage myself that we are doing a great job. If you are like me, and felt like you had zero idea of how to attack the mountain of material, or how to maneuver the review course, how to stay positive and awake at work, and just balancing life on a whole, I am here to tell you that you are doing a great job. I am reminding me that I do not need to put added pressure on myself. As Arthur Ashe puts it best; “Start where you are, Use what you have, and Do what you can”. Today, I am reminding myself to be confident that, you are doing a good job!!
I am on the Right Path
I chose this journey because it was my desire, my dream to be a respected accountant, among other things. I question whether I am on the right path, because I feel like my progress is slow, as the material seems to increase in difficulty. Today, I am reminding myself that the little progress that I make each day is enough and will add up to huge results.
I Am Capable
This journey will make you question whether you are capable of following through on your passion and your dreams. I have even questioned whether I am smart enough, or do I possess sufficient intellect to pass this exam. I do know that I have to continue to do this work, mind body and soul, and trust that I will succeed. Today, I am reminding myself that I am more capable than I think. I am strong, able and I can do this.
Impossible Is Nothing
I know its cliche to say nothing is impossible, if you just believe. Only if it was that easy. Some things are sometimes just given, and others you just got to roll up your sleeves and earn. Talk to anyone who has taken, or is in the process of taking the exam. They will tell you of the blood, sweat and tears that is involved ;-). In essence, I am saying that you have to put in the work, to make the impossible – possible. One of my favorite quotes is from the late Nelson Mandela, “It always seem impossible until it’s done”. Today, I am reminding myself that with my hard work and devotion, I can do this!!
Trust Your Inner Wisdom and Ability
There is this inner voice that you should always listen to. It is your saving grace. It is telling you to just believe in your ability; to believe in your dream and to trust the process. Space Jam, is a feel good movie for kids and maybe the likes of adults that was released back in 1996, have taught me a great lesson. It taught me a lesson on perspective, on how I see problems and situations. We all know that story, but what stuck with me was how insignificant the monsters or “aliens” became when Michael was able to fly across the court above the aliens, scoring the winning shot. Sometimes, we make our problems bigger than they are. Today, I am reminding myself that perception is everything, and that problems are as big as I make it!!
Giving Up is Not an Option
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time” ~ Thomas A Edison. This point, I think is so relevant, to my current situation. I am part of a Facebook study group community, and I have read posts from group members who took the same exam over and over until they finally passed. I am always encouraged by their story of perseverance. Today, I am reminding myself that I will not give up, I will persevere to the end!!!
It would be remiss of me if I end this blog without one of my favorite scriptures, that had been carrying me through. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
